Windows 11 for ARM – native ARM64 Windows experience on Apple Silicon Macs with excellent performance and compatibility.
Setup Guide
Download Windows 11 ARM ISO
Go to Microsoft’s official Windows 11 on Arm download page and get the Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO for Arm64). Microsoft
You’ll need a valid Windows license key to activate later.
Create a New VM in VMC
Open VMC and click New VM (or +).
Choose Windows 11 ARM (Virtualize) as the OS/template if available.
Make sure Architecture = ARM64.
Allocate Resources
RAM: at least 8 GB (more recommended if your Mac has enough memory).
CPU cores: 4+ cores for smoother performance.
Disk: create a virtual disk of 60 GB or more.
Attach the Installer ISO
In the VM’s CD/DVD / Installer section, select the downloaded Windows 11 ARM ISO.
Ensure Secure Boot and TPM are enabled if your template supports them (required for official Windows 11 compatibility).
Start the VM & Install Windows
Start the VM and press any key when prompted to boot from the ISO.
Follow the standard Windows setup:
Choose language/keyboard.
Select Custom install and pick the created virtual disk.
Create a Microsoft account or local account when asked.
Install Guest Tools / Drivers (if available in VMC)
After the first boot into the Windows desktop, install VMC Guest Tools / drivers (if your app provides them) to enable:
Better display performance (virtio-ramfb-gl),
Networking drivers,
Clipboard / mouse integration.
Troubleshooting
“This PC can’t run Windows 11”
Check that TPM / Secure Boot are enabled for the VM and that at least 2 CPU cores are assigned.
Black screen during installer
Try rebooting the VM.
If you mounted guest tools during install and see a black screen, eject the tools ISO, reboot, and continue the setup.
No Internet in setup
Complete setup using “I don’t have internet” if available, then install guest tools to get network drivers.
Slow performance
Increase RAM/cores (while staying within your Mac’s limits) and close other heavy apps.
